View from the Patio

Poem by John Ridland

Horizon of mountains

massif in motion

houses a-bob

on an ocean of oaks

foreshore of orchard

tidal with blossoms

surf-foam of flowers

flocks at the fountain

wisteria scrambling

the cliff up the house wall

patio flooded

with fainting aromas

house diving under

a Great Wave of pollens

shudders and rights itself

roof timbers creaking

forward it forges

its passage our lifetimes
