Hero Blames Leander

Poem by Christine Yurick

Today, morning never arrived.

I sit and watch the sea

And know that darkening sky.

I stared and wondered why

The waves did rise

Wondered at this ebbing tide

And the anger in the sky

Without reason, without knowing why.

I stared and saw the waves were blue

And the waves were true.

Who had done them wrong?

Surely it wasn’t I—

It must have been… you.
